Facade thought leaders

Strategic initiatives

We are committed to developing both the facade industry & the next generation of facade design professionals.

To this end we regularly participate in initiatives related to building enclosure performance, energy usage, resilience, modeling, embodied carbon & decarbonization.  These include:

  • Multiple appointments to each of the following National AIA Board Committees for strategic initiatives:
  • Knowledge Committee
  • Energy Leadership Committees
  • National Energy in Design Task Force
  • Sustainability Committee
  • Healthcare Futures Initiative for the Veterans Administration
  • Lawrence Berkeley National Labs’ development of the ‘COMFEN’ facade performance simulation tool and user guides
  • Center for the Built Environment at UC Berkeley
  • University of Washington Integrated Design Lab

Publications

As part of our ongoing commitment to be facade design thought leaders by developing the industry & the next generation of professionals, we contribute to the facade, analysis & sustainability chapters in design guides & technical publications such as:

  • 50% Advanced Energy Design Guide – Small to Medium Office Buildings’ published by ASHRAE
  • An Architect’s Guide to Integrating Energy Modeling in the Design Process’ published by AIA
  • Architect’s Guide to Building Performance’ published by AIA
  • Deep Energy Retrofits: An Emerging Opportunity’ published by AIA
  • Performance-Based Building Design Concepts: A Companion Document to the ICC Performance Code for Buildings & Facilities’ published by International Code Council
  • The AIA Guide to the International Green Construction Code’ published by AIA
  • The Carbon Sweet Spot – Design Tradeoffs for Embodied & Operational Carbon in New Buildings’ published by University of Washington Integrated Design Lab
